1. Practice “hygge” with candles
My first staycation idea is about hygge (prounounced kind of like who-gah). This Danish word doesn’t have a direct translation to English. But it’s the concept of something like being happy and content. The #1 way to practice hygge? Candles. Fun fact! Denmark is the world’s largest consumer of candles. And with good reason! Candles give you all kinds of warm, fuzzy, calm feelings. Whatever you’re doing, light a bunch of candles around your house and get in the luxury staycation mood.

2. Order “fancy takeout”
Even during the Coronavirus pandemic, restaurants are still open for delivery and takeout! For staycation idea #2 I suggest you take advantage of that $0 Uber Eats delivery fee right now and order food from a fancy restaurant in town. Not only is this a great way to try out some luxurious food you’ve had your eye on, but also a great way to support local businesses!

3. Get in vacation mode with a “virtual window”
Have a TV or laptop? Good! Make your screen into a “virtual window” by finding a “naturescape” video of your dream vacation on YouTube. It could be a jungle or it could be a beach. Whatever it is, put it on your TV or computer and turn on the surround sound! This staycation idea will have you in luxury vacation mode in no time.

4. Give yourself a luxury spa day
There’s no better staycation idea than giving yourself a luxurious home spa day. From saving money to avoiding contact with others during Coronavirus, home spa days are a great idea. Start by stocking up on spa-day essentials that are actually in-stock right now! I love this collapsible bathtub for showers since I don’t have a shower-bathtub combo. I also suggest getting some face masks, bubble bath or herbal bath salts, and scented candles. Top it all off with this super fuzzy bathrobe and socks and you’ll be in staycation bliss in no time!

5. Explore “new nature” in your own backyard
Just because it’s a staycation doesn’t mean you have to stay inside! This staycation idea helps you save money, stay local, and stay healthy by exploring nature in your own town/area! Right now people are taking the opportunity to explore amazing local spots like waterfalls, mountains, and forests. We all have those spots we’ve always been meaning to visit but just don’t because they’re right next door! Get some fresh air and exercise by visiting local nature spots on your staycation.

6. Get crafty
There’s something about making things yourself that just lightens the mood and makes you enjoy using those things that much more. Often we don’t have time to get all DIY, so use the extra time now to get crafty. Got dry hands from all the hand-washing lately? Me too! For staycation idea #6, check out this DIY recipe from Little House Living for hand lotion using just 2 ingredients. I love it because it’s 100% natural and super easy to make!

7. Attend your own personal yoga session or meditation workshop
This is my favorite staycation idea personally. My all-time favorite health and self-care tools right now are the Calm app and The Yoga Collective! With these tools you can have your own personal development and mindfulness workshop or an hour-long Vinyasa flow class right from the comfort of your own home! This is the perfect way to get that exclusive meditation and yoga instruction that you might get on a retreat or at a luxury resort. But it’s way cheaper and no travel is required!
